Writing Studio

The Activity Bar

3 min read

The narrow vertical strip on the editor's far left is the Activity Bar. It's not three side-by-side studio icons — it's a vertical list. The Slima logo at the top opens the Studio Switcher; each icon below controls which panel appears in the left column.

What's in the strip (top to bottom)

Top: Slima logo

Click → opens the Studio Switcher popup (Writing Studio ✓ / Script Studio / AI Beta Reader).

It's not three parallel Studio icons — it's a single logo that opens a popup.

See: Studio Switcher

Middle: left-panel toggles

Each icon corresponds to "click → show this panel in the left column":

  • 💧 Current Studio marker (Writing, blue rail)
  • 📁 File tree (default selection)
  • 💬 AI Coach
  • Notes
  • 📤 Import / export
  • 📄 Document
  • 🔗 Relationship map
  • 📖 Dictionary
  • Entity tracking

Click the same icon a second time → collapse the left panel.

Bottom: account / upgrade / help

  • 👑 Upgrade (links to Account → Subscription)
  • Help (Help Center)

Activity bar vs left panel are two layers

Easy to confuse:

  • Activity bar: picks which panel to show (single click switches)
  • Left panel: the actual panel content (file tree / search / etc.)

Hiding the left panel ≠ hiding the activity bar. The activity bar stays on the far left.

Hover for labels

Hover any icon for a tooltip (e.g. "File tree", "AI Coach"). The first-time tour highlights these.

Hide the activity bar

Some platforms support Ctrl/Cmd ⇧ . (or Account → Preferences). To bring it back: same shortcut.
