AI floating toolbar

3 min read

Want AI help mid-sentence? Don't open the chat panel every time — the AI floating toolbar is always near your cursor, one click to common actions.

Slima Writing Studio editor as a visual reference: left file tree / centre editor with format toolbar / right Notes panel

Where it is

By default bottom-right — a small ✨ circle.

┌─────────────────────┐
│ 🤖 Coach ✨ Rewrite│
│ 📊 Analyse 🔍 Look up │
│ ⬆ Expand ⬇ Shorten │
└─────────────────────┘

Six standing buttons

Button Use
🤖 Coach Open a new chat
✨ Rewrite Same as SelectionMenu "Rewrite"
📊 Analyse Open AI chapter analysis
🔍 Look up New chat + Web search enabled
⬆ Expand Expand the selection
⬇ Shorten Shorten the selection

Different from SelectionMenu: the floating toolbar is always there, no selection required — but actions like Expand / Shorten will prompt "select text first" if you click them with no selection.

Customise

⚙️ on the toolbar:

  • Reorder buttons
  • Hide unused buttons (never use "Look up"? hide it)
  • Add custom actions (a recurring prompt → become a button)

E.g. you often ask "Is the character voice right in this dialogue?" — add to the toolbar, becomes one click.

Drag anywhere

Hold the toolbar's drag handle → drop wherever. Slima remembers per device.

Default is bottom-right, but many people move it to bottom-left or top-centre.

Collapse / expand

Click the ✨ circle → expand / collapse. Expanded toolbar is draggable, resizable.

Fully hide: Account → Preferences → "AI floating toolbar" off.

Relationship to the main Coach panel

Floating toolbar = shortcut, always present.
Right-side panel = full conversation space, open when needed.

They coexist — clicking "Coach" on the floating toolbar opens the chat in the right panel.
